If you work really hard.
And you're very very lucky.
You'll meet "the one".
Who's one of a kind.
Who turns your stomach.
The one that makes you a better person.
Who makes this world more sane.
And your life a whole lot clearer.
Who shines brighter than the rest.
The one who shows you the way.
And that's Emily.
We had a huge privilege to raise Emily.
Emily is "the one".
Because of her this project was founded.
She's the one that made us build a sanctuary.
She's the logo.
She's the one.

Emily was found as a stranded bat cub in Be'er Sheva. 2 amazing girls brought her to Tel Aviv.
Emily was on us 24/7 - That's how she got body warmth, nurture, heard our heart beat 24/7, just like a mother and baby in nature.
Emily was already starting to learn how to fly, and then the worst has happened.
Emily met a wild dog that's been through abuse, and the dog killed her.
In that moment we knew that we can take risks anymore - It's time to open a shelter for bats only!
A safe place for any bat who needs help!
And that's how it all began...

פעם ב... פעם בהמון זמן.
אם תעבוד ממש קשה.
ואם יהיה לך המון מזל.
אתה תפגוש את ה"אחד".
האחד הזה שהוא יחיד ומיוחד.
זה שהופך לך את הבטן.
זה שהופך אותך לבן אדם טוב יותר.
זה שהופך את העולם הזה להרבה יותר שפוי.
וזה שהופך את החיים שלך להרבה יותר ברורים.
זה שמתבלט מעל כולם באור שלו.
זה שמראה לך את הדרך.
וזוהי אמילי.
נפלה בחלקנו הזכות הענקית לגדל את אמילי.
אמילי היא "האחת".
היא זו שבזכותה כול הפרוייקט הזה הוקם.
היא זו שגרמה לנו להקים עמותה ולפתוח בית מחסה.
היא הלוגו.
היא האחת.
היא.

אמילי נמצאה כגורה נטושה בבאר שבע. 2 בנות מקסימות הביאו אותה אלינו לת"א.
אמילי הייתה עלינו 24 שעות ביממה- ככה היא קיבלה חום גוף, טיפוח, שמעה את דפיקות הלב שלנו 24/7 ממש כמו גור ואמא בטבע.
אמילי כבר התחילה ללמוד לעוף ואז קרה הנורא מכל...
אמילי פגשה בכלבת בר שעברה התעללות והייתה בשיקום וכלבת הבר הרגה אותה.
באותו הרגע היה ברור לנו שאנו לא מסתכנים יותר - הגיע הזמן לפתוח בית מחסה לעטלפים בלבד!
מקום מוגן לכל עטלף שזקוק לעזרה!
וככה הכל התחיל...
עוזי
עוזי העטלף הגיבור.
עוזי הגיע אלינו בגיל 15 בערך. זכר גדול ומבוגר מאוד שרואים שהחיים לא הקלו עליו.
את עוזי חילצנו מהזנחה בפינת חי.
בכללי פינות חי לא מתייחסות כמו שצריך לעטלפים... הרי בע"ח בפינות החי הם לשם התצוגה - ועטלפים רק רוצה לישון בשקט בחושך במהלך היום ולפרוס כנף לעוף ולשחק כל הלילה!
עוזי הקריח, היו לו גידולים על הפנים, האף שלו היה נפוח, קצה הכנף שלו הייתה שבורה והיו לו דלקות בציפורניים מחוסר שימוש...
עוזי הרגיש לא טוב רוב חייו ולכן בודד את עצמו משאר העטלפים וישן בפינת הרצפה על הבטון.
אנחנו לא יודעים הרבה על עוזי אבל אנחנו לגמרי יודעים שהגיעו לו חיים הרבה טובים ממה שנתנו לו בפינת החי...
עוזי עבר אצלנו שיקום ארוך שכלל גם ניתוח של הכנף ולקיחת ביופסיה מהגידולים.
עברו כבר 3 שנים מאז שעוזי הגיע אלינו.
הוא עבר המון.
ואנחנו עברנו הכל ביחד איתו.
את הניתוחים, הפיזיותרפיה, הבידוד החברתי, השיקום, התרופות, ועוד תרופות, ועוד תרופות ועוד תרופות...
עד שהגענו חזרה לחיי להקה בריאים.
אחרי 3 שנים ביחד עוזי הלך לישון ולא התעורר.
וזה שובר אותנו. שובר אותנו שעוזי חיי בתנאי שבי במשך 15 שנה - עד שהגענו אליו.
3 השנים האחרונות של עוזי היו קסומות - הוא הופיע בצינור לילה, ברדיו, גר משוחרר בבית המחסה, והיתה לו פינת דובים רק שלו!
הוא אהב להתלטף ולישון מכורבל בכיסי פיג'מה ושמיכות פליז.
אבל זה היה רק 3 שנים מתוך 18...
גומרת עלינו המחשבה שכמו עוזי ישנם מאות עטלפים בריאים שרק רוצים לפרוס כנף לעוף ולשחק בשמים - אבל במקום זה הם כלואים בפינות החי בישראל או במעבדות הניסויים...

כי הוא היה פה.
אחד ויחיד במינו.
גיבור אמיתי.
עוזי שלנו ז"ל.
Uzi
Uzi the heroic bat.
Uzi came to us at the age of 15. A large older male, that looks like life hasn't been easy on him.
We rescued Uzi from neglect at a petting zoo.
In general, these places don't treat bats well... Because animals at the petting zoo are there for display, and bats just want to sleep in a dark, quiet place during the day, and spread their wings, fly and play all night!
Uzi went bald, had tumors on his face, the tip of his wind was broken and his nails were infected from lack of use...
Uzi wasn't feeling well, and so he isolated himself from the rest of the pack and slept at the corner of the concrete floor.
We don't know much about Uzi, but we definitely know that he deserved a much better life than he had at the petting zoo...
Uzi went through a long rehabilitation process with us, including surgery on his wing and biopsy for the tumors.
It's been three years since Uzi came to us.
He's been through so much.
And we've been through everything with him.
The surgeries, the physiotherapy, the social isolation, the rehabilitation, the medicines, and more medicines, and more and more medicines...
Until we went back to healthy life with the pack.
After three years, Uzi went to sleep and never woke up.
And it breaks our hearts. It destroys us that Uzi lives in captivity for 15 years - until we got to him.
Uzi's last years have been magical - He appeared on "Zinor Layla", on the radio, lived freely at the sanctuary for three years, and had his own teddybear corner!
He liked to snuggle and to sleep cuddled in pajama pockets and fleece blankets.
But it was only three years out of 18...
It destroys us to think that, like Uzi, there are hundred of healthy bats that only want to spread their wings, play and fly in the sky - but instead they are locked up in petting zoos in Israel or in experiment laboratories...

Because he was here.
One of a kind.
A real hero.
Our Uzi, May he rest in peace.
